Rabbi Zalman KastelJudaism – Faith and Practices

Rabbi Zalman Kastel is National Director of the Together for Humanity Foundation, a charity working to teach children to replace prejudice with respect. He was raised in the “ultra orthodox” Chasidic tradition in the racially divided Crown Heights area of Brooklyn New York. This changed in 2001, when encounters with Christians and Muslims transformed him.

Rabbi Kastel will broaden our awareness of Judaism by beginning his presentation discussing key Jewish faith beliefs and practices. He will then share with us how and why he founded the Together for Humanity Foundation – its aims, objectives and current status. How might we “replace prejudice with respect” in our community.

Everyone is welcome to this talk and discussion.

Dear Friends,

Marrickville Multifaith Roundtable is a group bringing together Marrickville’s different Faith Communities in the Marrickville Local Government Area.

We have been meeting for some years and we would like to offer an opportunity for you and members of your faith or denominational group to make better connections. One way we hope to do this in 2013 is by offering a series of talks and a dinner to assist us to understand various religious perspectives and what is happening regarding dialogue between religious groups.

We will begin with a Muslim speaker on April 11. See details below. We ask you to place this advertisement in your bulletins or newsletters.

Spirit Life in Marrickville 0

This Community Arts Project will explore the variety of values, beliefs and spiritual life in the Marrickville Local Government Area. It is sponsored by The Marrickville Multifaith Roundtable in conjunction with Marrickville Council. We will invite local residents, community groups, schools and artists to create art works that engage the wider community in a conversation to promote mutual understanding and respect.

The Community Arts Project will enable people of all faiths and value systems to express their hopes, concerns and interests through the imagination.  The arts can play an important role in assisting people who come from different perspectives to engage in a conversation that is both illuminating and provocative.  We hope people using their artistic imagination will be both inspired and challenged through the medium of drawings, paintings, photography, sculpture and poetry.

This is a co-operative project of the local faith bodies that form the Marrickville Multifaith Roundtable (Anglican, Catholic, Hindu, Muslim and Uniting); Marrickville Council and the Blake Society that supports the Engage Program.
